Europa League October 4

Just one bet in the Europa League on Thursday:

1 unit bet on Salzburg-Celtic Over 2.75 @1.94

Red Bull Salzburg-Celtic

Salzburg have been scoring a ton of goals this season and have at least two in eight straight matches and all eight of those games have gone over 2.5 goals.  They have been conceding quite a few goals though and have kept just one clean sheet in the last eight matches.  Their first Europa League game this season was an entertaining 3-2 win over RB Leipzig and both of their home games in Champions League qualifying had at least three goals.  These two met in the Europa League back in 2014 and both games ended with four goals.  I think there will be a similar result on Thursday and I like Salzburg to win here 3-1

Europa League Preview Sep 20

The Europa League Group Stage kicks off Tuesday with lots of big name clubs involved like Chelsea, Arsenal, and AC Milan, but I am more interested in the Red Bull Derby going on in Leipzig which should have lots of goals.  I like the Over in that game, plus a few more bets on Thursday:

1 unit bet on Leipzig-Salzburg Over 3 @1.93

1 unit bet on Marseille-Eintracht Over 2.75 @1.90

1 unit bet on Olympiakos-Real Betis to Draw @3.55

1 unit bet on Dinamo Zagreb-Fenerbahce to Draw @3.35

RB Leipzig-RB Salzburg

Leipzig have already gone through three rounds of qualifying to reach the Group Stage and all three of their home games have had at least four goals.  In addition, two of their first three in the Bundesliga have had five goals scored.   For Salzburg, they are scoring a lot of goals in the Austrian League, but are not keeping many clean sheets.  With two teams that can score, I think we should see plenty of goals and I like Leipzig to win 3-1

Marseille-Eintracht Frankfurt

All five Ligue 1 matches for Marseille have had at least four goals.  They have scored in each game and have two or more in four of the five matches.  But they are giving up quite a few as well, conceding two to both Monaco and Rennes and three to Nimes.   Eintracht are not scoring quite as much, but they have at least one goal in each of their three Bundesliga matches, but they have just one clean sheet in those games.  They are unlikely to keep a clean sheet against this Marseille team, but I do like their chances of at least getting on the scoreboard.  I think Marseille get a 3-1 victory in this match

Olympiakos-Real Betis

Betis did very well last season, finishing sixth in La Liga, but they have had a bit of a slow start to this campaign with just one win through the first four matches.  They have drawn two more matches though and have been playing a lot of close, low scoring games.  I think they are the stronger team in this match up, but Olympiakos are very difficult to beat in Greece.  This should be a very close game and I think this game ends 1-1

Dinamo Zagreb-Fenerbahce

Both of these teams were in qualifying for the Champions League and both narrowly missed out, with Dinamo defeated by Young Boys and Fenerbahce falling to Benfica.  Both of those ties were very close though and each had a draw in one of the legs.  This should also be a very even match as well and I think this will end all level at 1-1

Europa League Qualifying August 30

The final day of qualifying for the Europa League is on Thursday and one bet I like from these games:

1 unit bet on Midtjylland-Malmo Over 2.5 @2.02

FC Midtjylland-Malmo FF

The first leg on this tie finished 2-2 and I think the second will be high scoring as well.  Midtjylland have had 8 of their 12 matches this season go over 2.5 goals and  they have scored three times in four of their six home matches so far.  But Malmo can score as well and they will need to here, as they are down on the away goal tiebreaker.  Malmo scored five this past weekend and three in their Swedish League match before that.  I think this second leg ends 2-2 as well

Europa League August 16

One bet in the Europa League on Thursday:

1 unit bet on Kairat Almaty-Sigma Olomouc Over 2.5 @1.96

Kairat Almaty-Sigma Olomouc

Sigma got a big 2-0 victory in the first leg but now face a difficult trip to Kazakhstan and Kairat have done very well in their home matches in this competition.   Kairat scored twice in the previous round against AZ Alkmaar and seven in the round before that against Engordany of Andorra.  They have some dangerous attackers and will need to go all out to overturn this deficit.   There were a lot of shots on goal in the first leg, but Kairat got a red card in the first half which really hurt their scoring chances.  But I think that will change in this leg and I think this match will be a 2-1 win for Kairat

Europa League Qualifying Preview August 9

Half of the Champions League Qualifiers ended in draws this week and I think we will see a similar situation in the Europa League on Thursday.  There are a lot of very even match ups in this round and here are three that have a good chance to end all level:

1 unit bet on Sigma Olomouc-Kairat Almaty to Draw @3.48

1 unit bet on Jagiellonia Bialystok-Gent to Draw @3.27

1 unit bet on Nordsjaelland-Partizan Belgrade to Draw @3.16

Sigma Olomouc-Kairat Almaty

Sigma last played in the Europa League in 2009 and they drew two of the three home games they played that season.   Kairat are very difficult to beat when they play in Kazakhstan, but are not nearly as strong in away ties.  I think they will play a very conservative match and would be able to take a draw back to Almaty for the second leg.  I think this match will be a 1-1 draw

Jagiellonia Bialystok-Gent to Draw @3.27

Jagiellonia drew their match away to Rio Ave in the previous round and the home leg was very close to being a draw as well, though Jagiellonia were able to get a lucky goal as the decider in the tie.  Gent have played draws in three of their last five games in the Europa League and any trip to Poland will make for a tough match.  I think this game will end 2-2

FC Nordsjaelland-Partizan Belgrade to Draw @3.16

Partizan have played draws in three of their last six away games in Europa League competition and they face a difficult trip to Denmark here.  Nordsjaelland have played very close, low scoring games in just about all of their Europa League games.  Of their last ten matches in this competition, all have either been draws or decided by a single goal.  This should be another close one and I think it will end 1-1

Europa League Preview August 2

A ton of Europa League action on Thursday, with 44 games being played in this qualifying round.   Three totals that I like from these games:

1 unit bet on Sarpsborg-St Gallen Over 2.75 @1.99

1 unit bet on Asteras Tripolis-Hibernian Over 2.5 @1.81

1 unit bet AZ Alkmaar- Kairat Almaty Over 2.75 @1.87

Sarpsborg-St Gallen

The first leg of this tie ended with St Gallen winning 2-1 in Switzerland and now the second leg moves back to Norway, where Sarpsborg have had 7 of their 10 matches this season go over 2.5 goals.  In home matches, Sarpsborg have scored at least twice in 7 of their 10 games this year and they face a St Gallen team that allowed an average of 2 goals per game in away matches in the Swiss Super League.   Last season, St Gallen had the most games go over 2.5 goals in the Swiss league and their first two games this season both went over 2.5.  I think this should be a high scoring game and I like Sarpsborg to win 3-1.

Asteras Tripolis-Hibernian

Hibs have played some wild games so far in the Europa League.   In the last round, they beat NSI Runavik 6-1 at home and then won again in the Faroe Islands on the return leg by a score of 6-4.   They then won the first leg of this tie 3-2 in Scotland.   Asteras need to get the win in this one, but after scoring two away goals they are in a good position to advance.  Away goals could play a big role in this match, so both teams will want to score in this game.  I think Asteras will win this game 2-1

AZ Alkmaar-Kairat Almaty

AZ lost 2-0 in the first leg in Kazakhstan, but they now return home where they scored a ton of goals last season.  AZ averaged 2.35 in their home matches in the Eredivisie, which was third in the league behind only Ajax and PSV.   The last three home matches in the Europa League have all gone over 2.5 for AZ, while three of the last four away Europa games for Kairat have gone over that number.  I think AZ wins this match 3-1.

Europa League Preview July 19

Lots of action in the Europa League on Thursday  with the second legs of the first qualifying round.  Three matches that I like:

1 unit bet on Slovan Bratislava-Milsami Orhei Over 2.5 @1.80

1 unit bet on Titograd -1 @1.99

1 unit bet on  Trencin -.75 @1.76

Slovan Bratislava-Milsami Orhei

Slovan got a big 4-2 win in the first leg and now get the second leg at home.  This is going to be a tough match for Milsami, who have never won a Europa League away match.  Milsami will need to attack if they want to advance and this will open them up against a Slovan team that is tough to beat at home.  I think Slovan will get another big win in this match.  I like Slovan to win 3-1.

OFK Titograd-B36 Torshavn

Titograd were held to a disappointing 0-0 draw in the first leg, but that was a difficult and long trip to the Faroe Islands and they should have an easier time now that they are playing at home.  B36 have never won a Europa League away match and I think they will have a tough time on this trip to Montenegro.  I like Titograd to win 3-0

AS Trencin-Buducnost Podgorica

Trencin are up 2-0 in this tie and get the second leg at home.   Trencin dominated the first leg and only allowed Buducnost one shot on goal in the whole match.  With this game in Slovakia, I like Trencin to once again get the win and will predict another 2-0 victory.

Europa League Preview July 12

Lots of action on Thursday as the Europa League gets into full swing.  A few matches that I like:

1 unit bet on Zeljeznicar -1.5 @1.83

1 unit bet on Ventspils-Luftetari to Draw @3.45

1 unit bet on Lahti-Hafnarfjordur to Draw @3.07

1 unit bet on Ilves-Slavia Sofia to Draw @3.13

1 unit bet on Siroki Brijeg-Domzale to Draw @3.27

1 unit bet on Milsami Orhei-Slovan Bratislava to Draw @3.30

Narva Trans-Zeljeznicar

Narva have never won a European match in their history.  In fact, their best result ever in European competition is a 2-0 loss.   Narva have had a lot of ugly results in this competition, including an 8-1 aggregate loss to Gefle in their last appearance in the Europa League.  Narva are a very small club and I am expecting another lopsided loss on Thursday.   And while Zeljeznicar are certainly no giants in European football, they are a much stronger team and have a decent record in this competition.   I think Zelje get a 3-0 win in this match.

Ilves-Slavia Sofia

Ventspils-Luftetari Gjirokastra

Siroki Brijeg-Domzale

Milsami Orhei-Slovan Bratislava

There are a lot of very even matches in the early stages of the Europa League and I am expecting to see a lot of low scoring games.  I think there will be several matches that end in draws on Thursday and these are five games that I think have a good chance to end level.   Lahti and Ilves both play in the Finnish league, a league that sees a very high number of draws.  Ventspils have played in the Europa League many times in recent years and almost all of their matches are very close.  Siroki and Domzale are too very evenly matched teams and Slovan are a bigger team than their opponent, but Milsami with home advantage will keep this one very close.  Only need to hit a  couple of these to make a profit and I am hoping to win two or three.
