Sunday October 7

Six bets for Sunday, two in Italy, and one each in England, Spain, France, and Portugal:

5 unit bet on Fiorentina +.75 @1.83

1 unit bet on Man City +.25 @1.79

1 unit bet on Sampdoria +1 @1.85

1 unit bet on Marseille-Caen Over 2.75 @1.81

1 unit bet on Valencia-Barcelona Under 3 @1.98

1 unit bet on Benfica-Porto to Draw @3.24

Lazio-Fiorentina

Lazio have had a rough week, falling in the Rome Derby and then dropping their Europa League match on Thursday away to Eintracht Frankfurt.  And the schedule does not get any easier with a very tough match against Fiorentina and though this match is in Rome, I like the visitors in this one.  Three games in a week is tough for any team and when it is against three very strong opponents, it is very tiring and I do no think any team would be at full strength with such little rest and a good bit of travel between games.  And Fiorentina would be a difficult opponent at any time and with them well rested, I think they will be ready to get a result in this match.  Fiorentina are above Lazio in the Serie A table, they have scored more goals and have conceded fewer.  I like Fiorentina to come away with a 2-1 win in this match

Liverpool-Manchester City

Even though this match is at Anfield, I feel that Man City is in a better position for this match, as Liverpool have had a brutal run of fixtures in the past two weeks.  The Reds had to face Chelsea twice, once in the League Cup and once at Stamford Bridge in PL play.  They then had to make a long trip to Italy to face Napoli in Champions League play on Wednesday.  That is a lot of difficult games in a very short period of time.  In the same period, Man City cruised to victories over Oxford Utd in the Cup and Brighton in the PL and though they had to work hard to get a win over Hoffenheim in the CL, they have had an extra day of rest to recover.   Man City come into this game in better form and a bit better rested and that makes them the slight favorite in my opinion.  I think City wins this match 2-1

Atalanta-Sampdoria

I am surprised to see Atalanta as such a big favorite for this match, as they have not had very strong results this season and sit just above the relegation zone with just one win so far.  Sampdoria were a very poor away team last season, but they have taken four points from their first three road games this campaign, and more importantly, have allowed just one goal.  I like Sampdoria in this one and think they get a 2-1 win

Valencia-Barcelona

Barca had a huge win midweek in the Champions League and scored four times in London, but their La Liga form has been a different story.  Winless in their last three and they have scored just once in the past two games.  And Valencia is a very difficult team to beat and very tough to score on.  Only one of nine competitive matches this season have gone over 3 goals and head to head, just one of the past five meetings in Valencia have gone over 3.  With Valencia at home, I think they will give Barca a very tough match and I think this game ends 1-1

Marseille-Caen

Marseille have played 10 matches this season, eight in Ligue 1 and two more in the Europa League, and all 10 have had at least three goals.   I have bet the over in just about every game they have played this season and am going to continue to do so.  They are not only scoring a ton, but are giving up a bunch as well and I think that trend continues against Caen.  I think this match ends 2-2

Benfica-Porto

Both meetings two seasons ago were draws, as was the first meeting last season.  The second match last season was also nearly a draw, until a late Porto goal gave them the win.  This match is always close and very intense and this meeting will likely be the same.  I think this match ends 1-1

Ligue 1 Preview Sep 28-30

There were some entertaining games in France midweek with the teams at the top of the table scoring a lot of goals.  I think that these teams continue to score and I like the overs in the PSG and Marseille matches:

1 unit bet on Nice-PSG Over 3 @1.77

1 unit bet on Lille-Marseille Over 2.75 @1.82

Nice-PSG

PSG have scored at least three goals in all seven of their Ligue 1 games so far this season and even if they rotate prior to their Champions League match next week, they are still likely to score some goals in this match.  But PSG have kept two clean sheets this season and Nice are starting to score some goals, with two scored in two of the last three games.  I think PSG get a 3-1 win in this match

Lille-Marseille

Like PSG, Marseille have scored a ton of goals so far this season, but they have also been giving up a ton, with only Guingamp allowing more in Ligue 1 play.  Their games are averaging 4.6 goals per match and all seven games have gone over 2.5 goals.    Lille’s games so far this season are averaging 2.4 goals per game, but that number jumps to 3.3 for their home matches and all three of their home games have gone over 2.5.  Lille have scored at least twice in each of their home games and against this Marseille defense, that trend is likely to continue.  I think Lille win here 3-2

And the rest of the Ligue 1 action this weekend:

St Etienne-Monaco: Lean St Etienne ML @2.03

Monaco’s tough start continued on Tuesday as they fell 1-0 to Angers and they are in a difficult spot here with a Champions League away fixture coming up in just a few days.  And St Etienne are in good form with two wins in a row and they have just one loss on the season and that came against PSG.   I think Monaco’s struggles continue here and I like St Etienne to get a 1-0 win in this match

Angers-Guingamp: Lean Angers ML @2.13

Angers have won three of the last four and face a Guingamp team that are rock bottom of the table with just one single point this season.  Guingamp did at least keep a clean sheet in their last match against Nimes, but they still lead Ligue 1 with 17 goals allowed this season.  With Angers at home and in good form, I think they get a 2-0 win in this match

Caen-Amiens: Over 2 @1.74

A very low total for two teams that have had quite a few high scoring games.  Caen have had at least two goals in every Ligue 1 match so far and Amiens have had just one with less than two.  The last three matches for both teams have had at least three goals and I think Caen get a 2-1 win in this match

Lyon-Nantes: Lean Nantes +1.5 @1.91

Lyon have really picked up their play in the past couple weeks with two big wins in Ligue 1 to go along with their huge upset of Manchester City in the Champions League and they should like their chances against a Nantes team that are all the way down in 19th in the table.  But Lyon do have another Champions League match coming up on Tuesday, so may not be fully focused on this match.  And despite their struggles, Nantes are not blown out in many games.  Lyon should get the win, but it may be closer than expected.  I think Lyon win this match 2-1

Reims-Bordeaux: Lean Bordeaux +.25 @1.87

Bordeaux had a challenging start to the season, but they seem to be rounding into form and have two straight wins and have just one loss in their last five matches.  Reims, on the other hand, got off to a hot start with wins in their first two, but they have now failed to pick up a win in the past five matches.  These two seem to be headed in opposite directions and I like Bordeaux to win here 2-1

Strasbourg-Dijon: Lean Over 2.5 @2.01

Strasbourg have been playing quite a few high scoring games in recent weeks with a 3-2 loss to Marseille, a 3-1 win over Amiens, and another 3-2 loss to Nantes.  They also played two 3-2 games last season against Dijon, one in the Leauge and one in the Cup.   Dijon have played some high scoring games as well and three of five have gone over 2.5.  I think both teams score in this match and I think it ends in a 2-2 draw

Rennes-Toulouse: Lean Toulouse +.5 @1.97

Rennes have now dropped three straight in Ligue 1 play and have to juggle their Europa League schedule as well.  They have to make an extremely long trip to play Astana in Europa next Thursday which puts them in a difficult spot for this game.  Toulouse have played well this season and though they dropped their last game against St Etienne, they were unbeaten in five prior to that.  I like Toulouse in this match against an out of form Rennes side and I think the visitors come away with a 2-1 victory.

Montpellier-Nimes: Lean Montpellier ML @1.97

Montpellier have lost just once this season and that came on the opening weekend of the season.  Nimes have done well to start this season and they have scored a ton of goals, but they come up against a very strong defense here, as Montpellier are tied for the fewest goals allowed in Ligue 1.  But Nimes have conceded 13 goals so far, which is tied for second most in the league and I think Montpellier will be able to take advantage.  I like the home side to win here 2-0

Ligue 1 Preview Sep 25-26

Three games in Ligue 1 on Tuesday and then seven more on Wednesday.  I think a bunch of these games will be very close and am backing the draw in several.  Plus a couple games that I think will have a lot of goals:

5 unit bet on Nimes-Guingamp Over 2.5 @1.98

1 unit bet on Marseille-Strasbourg Over 2.75 @1.81

1 unit bet on Nantes-Nice to Draw @3.26

1 unit bet on Toulouse-St Etienne to Draw @3.20

1 unit bet on Bordeaux-Lille to Draw @3.32

1 unit bet on Caen-Montpellier to Draw @3.15

Nimes-Guingamp

The two teams with the most goals allowed in Ligue 1 face off here, with Guingamp giving up a league high 17 and Nimes right behind them with 13 conceded.  But Nimes have been scoring a ton of goals as well and their 13 goals scored is third most in Ligue 1, only behind PSG and Marseille.   Nimes have scored in all but one match so far and have two or more in four of their six matches.  But they are yet to keep a clean sheet this season and their games are averaging 4.3 goals per match.  For Guingamp, all six matches in Ligue 1 this season have gone over 2.5 goals and their matches are averaging 3.5 goals per game.  They have lost each of their six matches and have allowed at least two in each game.  I think Nimes will score multiple times here, but I like Guingamp’s chances of scoring as well and I think this match ends as a 3-1 win for Nimes

Marseille-Strasbourg

Marseille’s six Ligue 1 matches this season have averaged 4.5 goals per match and all six have had at least three goals.  Marseille’s 16 goals scored are second most in the league, only behind PSG’s 20, but their 11 goals allowed is tied for third most.  Strasbourg are not as high scoring as Marseille, but they have found the back of the net in 5 of 6 matches this season and are coming off of a 3-1 win over Amiens.   Going up against a Marseille defense that has only kept two clean sheets, I like Strasbourg’s chances of scoring here, but Marseille have scored in each match this season and will likely do so again in this one.  I like Marseille to win 3-1 in this match

Nantes-Nice

Nice are playing a ton of very close matches and they are not allowing many goals.  If you take away their one very poor game, a 4-0 loss to Dijon, they have allowed just four goals and not more than one in any match.  But they are not scoring much either  and face a Nantes team that are also playing lots of close matches.  Of their last four games, Nantes have two draws and the other two were decided by just one goal.  Head to head, two of the last three meeting were draws and in the last ten between these teams, only once has the game been decided by more than one goal.  This should be a close one as well and I think this match ends 1-1

Toulouse-St Etienne

Toulouse are playing very well and have only lost once this season and that was in their opening match.  Their games are all very close though, with two draws and three wins all by just one goal.   St Etienne are a few places down in the table, but have had a similar season, with just one loss and lots of close games.  They have three draws so far and two 2-1 victories, with their only setback a 4-0 loss to PSG.  Head to head,  five of the last ten meetings have been draws and only one has been decided by more than a goal.  I think a draw is likely here as well and I think this may be a 0-0 game.

Caen-Montpellier

Montpellier have played very well to open the season and are in third in the table, only behind PSG and Lille.  They have lost just once so far and have been very strong defensively with just 4 goals allowed.  They do not score much though and all of their games are very close.  They have two draws this season and every other game has been a close game decided by one goal.  Caen, likewise, have had lots of close games, with three draws so far.  They have only won once this season though and Montpellier look to be the stronger team.  But with Caen at home, that should even things out and this should be a very tight match.  I think this game ends 1-1

Bordeaux-Lille

Lille have had a great start and are in second place in Ligue 1 and have lost just once in the first six matches.  They have won four times so far, but just one of those victories was in away games.  They have a loss and a draw in their other two away matches and all of their road games have been very close.  Bordeaux have had a challenging start to the season, with a managerial change and several Europa League games to juggle with their Ligue 1 matches.  They are down in 13th in the table, but have lost just once at home.  This is a match where Lille look to be the better team, but with Bordeaux at home, this should be very close and I think this match ends as a 1-1 draw

And the other four Ligue 1 midweek games:

Monaco-Angers: Lean Angers +.75 @1.88

Monaco have had a very slow start to the season and have just a single win so far.  They have had a ton of injuries and while they are starting to get healthy, I think it may still take some time for them to round into form.  Angers also started slowly, but have really picked things up lately and are unbeaten in the last three, with just one goal allowed.  Monaco are the more talented team, but are not in the best form and with Angers playing well, I think the visitors are likely to get at least a point here.  I think this match ends 1-1

Amiens-Rennes: Lean Amiens +.25 @1.84

Neither side is in the best of form and both have dropped their last two in Ligue 1 play.  I think Rennes are in a bit of a tough spot though as they are juggling Europa League play with their Ligue 1 schedule.  They played last Thursday in Europe and will do so again next Thursday.  That is a lot of matches in a short period of time and I am sure they are not looking forward to another midweek game.  And Amiens have not been too poor at home this season.  They have lost two of three, but both were narrow defeats against strong competition and they had a big 4-1 win in their other home game.  With Amiens hosting this game, I think they win 1-0 over a tired Rennes team

Dijon-Lyon: Lean Over 2.75 @1.79

Dijon had a great start to the season, winning the first three in Ligue 1, but have fallen off lately with two losses and a draw in the last three games.  Lyon also started a bit slow, but have scored at least twice in three of four in Ligue 1 in addition to their big win in the Champions League over Manchester City.  I think they keep up their good form here, but Dijon have scored a lot of goals this season too and with this at home, I think they at least find the back of the net here.  I think Lyon get a 3-1 victory in this game

PSG-Reims: Lean PSG -2.5 @2.10

Reims are right in the middle of the table and while they are the lowest scoring team in the league, they are not allowing much at all either and are coming off of two straight 0-0 draws.  They will likely make things tough for awhile against PSG, but the league leaders have scored at least three times in each Ligue 1 match so far and will eventually break through.  I think PSG win here 3-0

Sunday September 23

Ligue 1 Preview September 14-16

Round five kicks off in Ligue 1 on Friday with Nice hosting Rennes and I like the visitors in that match, while I am expecting to see lots of goals in Marseille vs Guingamp and Nimes vs Bordeaux.  Three bets in France this round:

1 unit bet on Rennes +.25 @1.81

1 unit bet on Marseille-Guingamp Over 3 @1.74

1 unit bet on Nimes-Bordeaux Over 2.5 @1.99

Nice-Rennes

Rennes lost their opener, but are unbeaten since then and had an impressive 2-0 win against Bordeaux in their last match.  Nice, on the other hand, have been struggling and though they did win their last match, they are just above the relegation zone in 17th place.  Nice only have two goals scored so far and with Mario Ballotelli out for this match, they are light on attacking options.  I think Rennes wins 2-0

Marseille-Guingamp

Marseille’s matches are averaging 4.3 goals per game so far and they are second in the league in goals with ten, which is only behind PSG’s 13.  But they have given up seven goals as well and have kept just one clean sheet.  Guingamp have had an awful start with four losses in four matches, with at least two goals allowed in each match.  Guingamp have the worst defense in Ligue 1 and Marseille’s dangerous attack should be ready to score on them.  But I like Guingamp’s chances of getting at least one goal as well and I think Over 3 is an attractive bet here.  I like Marseille to get a 3-1 win in this match

Bordeaux-Nimes

Nimes matches are averaging 4.5 goals per games which is highest in Ligue 1 and even more than some big time scoring teams like PSG and Marseille.  Nimes have scored two or more times in three of their four games so far, but are also yet to keep a clean sheet.  Bordeaux have also not kept a clean sheet this season, so this has a good chance to be a high scoring game.  Bordeaux have a good squad but it’s been a strange season with a lot of drama at the club, so picking a side in this game is difficult, but there should be some goals and I think this game will end 2-2

And the rest of the Ligue 1 action:

Paris St Germain-St Etienne: Lean St Etienne +2 @1.74

PSG have four wins from four matches, but they have allowed a goal in three of those games, which is making it difficult to cover the huge spreads that they have in every game.  They have only won by more than two goals once so far this season and St Etienne are a very tough team to score on.  St Etienne have only allowed two goals so far and they are unbeaten four games into the season.  PSG should win this game, but I think St Etienne will make it a difficult match and at least keep things close.  I like PSG to win 2-1

Caen-Lyon: Lean Caen +.75 @1.99

Lyon have surprisingly already lost twice so far this season, with defeats to Reims and Nice  and they face a tough trip to Caen here.  Caen are unbeaten in three straight and have only lost to PSG so far this season.  Caen have also played very well against Lyon the past two seasons and have won two of three when hosting Lyon.  Don’t think that Caen will beat Lyon again here, but I do like their chances of at least getting a draw.  I think this match will end 1-1

Amiens-Lille

Amiens beat Lille both times they faced last season and they have a win and a draw in their last two matches this season.  Lille are yet to win on the road this season and with Amiens the hosts here, I like their chances of getting a result.  I think Amiens wins here 1-0

Dijon-Angers

Opposite starts for these two, with Dijon winning three straight before losing last time out, while Angers lost three straight before defeating Lille.  Wonder if Dijon can bounce back or if their hot start was a fluke, while I also wonder if Angers can keep it going after a slow start.  But when you look at the head to head meetings between these two, the home team has won the last four, so have to give Dijon the edge here.  I think Dijon wins 2-1

Montpellier-Strasbourg: Lean Strasbourg +.5 @1.98

Montpellier are unbeaten in the last three after dropping their opener and Strasbourg have lost their last two, so Montpellier are understandably the favorite here, especially since it is a home match for them.  But head to head meetings were very close last season, with both matches ending in draws.  And while Montpellier have had good results, they haven’t faced the toughest competition, so I think that this match may be close as well.  I think this game ends in a 1-1 draw

Toulouse-Monaco: Lean Toulouse PK @2.10

Toulouse have won three straight and Monaco have lost their last two and I think this could be a tough spot for Monaco.  They have quite a few players missing for this match and they have a very difficult Champions League fixture with Atletico Madrid coming up on Tuesday.  With Toulouse at home, I think they have the edge in this match and I like them to get a 2-1 victory

Nantes-Reims: Lean Nantes ML @1.97

Reims jumped off to a hot start with wins in the first two, but have cooled off with two straight losses.  Nantes did the opposite, losing the first two and then slowly rounding into form with a draw and then a win in the last match.  I think Nantes will continue to gain momentum here and I think Reims may continue to struggle despite the strong start.  I think Nantes wins this one 1-0

Ligue 1 Preview Aug 31-Sep 2

Round 4 in Ligue 1 gets started on Friday and there are three games I like this week:

1 unit bet on Monaco-Marseille Over 2.75 @1.83

1 unit bet on Angers-Lille to Draw @3.26

1 unit bet on Reims-Montpellier to Draw @3.19

Monaco-Marseille

The past eight meetings between these two have all had at least three goals, including a 6-1 win for Monaco the last time Marseille came visiting.   All three games for Marseille have had four goals so far, while two of three have gone over 2.5 for Monaco.  I think the trend of high scoring games continues here and I like this match to end as a 2-2 draw

Angers-Lille

Two of the last five meetings between these teams have been draws with the other three all decided by a single goal.  Angers had 14 draws last season in Ligue 1, which was second most in the league and three of their last four at home ended all level.  Angers have struggled to score in their last two games, so this should be a defensive game and Lille’s only away match this season also ended 0-0.  I think this game ends 1-1

Reims-Montpellier

Montpellier led Ligue 1 with 18 draws last season and just played a 0-0 game with St Etienne last week.  Their other two games were also close, both ending 2-1.   Reims have also had close games in two of their three games so far with two 1-0 games.  Reims have a bit of an advantage with this one at home but Montpellier always keep things close, so I think there is a good chance for a draw and I think this match ends 1-1

And the rest of the Ligue 1 games this week:

Lyon-Nice: Lean Over 2.75 @1.83

Some wild games between these two in recent games with the last three ending 3-2, 5-0, and 3-3.   Lyon have scored twice in both of their home games so far and should do so again here, the question is if Nice will be able to score, as they only have one goal so far this season.  I think they do get one here but I think Lyon get a few more and win this match 3-1

Nimes-Paris SG: Lean Over 3.5 @1.93

Nimes started the season on fire in front of goal with four in their opener against Angers and then three the next week against Marseille.  A bit of a crash back to earth for the newly promoted team last week with a 1-0 loss to Toulouse, but with this match at home, hopefully they can get back on the scoresheet and PSG have only kept one clean sheet so far.  But PSG have scored three times in each game and will likely do so again here.  I think PSG get a 3-1 win in this match

Dijon-Caen: Lean Dijon ML @1.91

Dijon are the big surprise so far in Ligue 1 and are one of only two teams to start the season with three straight wins.  They sit just behind PSG on goal difference and have a good chance to extend their win streak against a Caen side that are yet to win.  Caen do have two draws though and even in their loss to PSG, they gave the Champs a tough match.  It won’t be easy but with this at home, I think Dijon come away with a close win here by a score of 2-1

Guingamp-Toulouse: Lean Toulouse +.5 @1.85

Guingamp are bottom of the table with three losses in three games and face a tough game here against Toulouse, who have won two straight.  Toulouse also got points in both meetings between these two last year with a win at home and a draw away.  Think that Toulouse will get at least a point again here and I think this match ends 1-1

Strasbourg-Nantes: Lean Nantes +.25 @1.88

Not the best start to the season for Nantes with two straight losses, but they got their first point of the season against Caen last week and I think they can do a bit better here and get their first win.  Nantes beat Strasbourg in both meetings last season and have won five of six head to head.  I think Nantes get a 1-0 win here

St Etienne-Amiens: Lean Amiens +1 @1.72

St Etienne are unbeaten so far this season with two draws and one win, but each game has been very close, so I think they may be too big of a favorite here.  Amiens lost their first two matches, but bounced back with a big 4-1 win at home last week over Reims.  I think Amiens will keep this close and think it is too much to expect St Etienne to win by more than a goal.  I think this game ends 1-1

Rennes-Bordeaux: Lean Rennes ML @2.13

Bordeaux have had a tough start to the season with Europa League qualification going on in addition to Ligue 1 and they just had a coaching change as well.  They got through their tie against Gent in Europa on Thursday and are now in the Group Stage, but it is a short turnaround for this match with Rennes on Sunday.  And Rennes won both meetings between these teams last season and also won their first home game of this season.  With this also at home, I think Rennes get a 1-0 win over a tired Bordeaux team

Ligue 1 Preview August 24-26

Round 3 in Ligue 1 kicks off on Friday and two bets I like this week:

1 unit bet on PSG -2.75 @1.86

1 unit bet on Monaco PK @1.79

Paris Saint Germain-Angers

PSG has won their games so far 3-0 and 3-1, but it seems like they haven’t even gotten going yet.  Thomas Tuchel even told the Guingamp coach last week that they were the better team, but when Kylian Mbappe was introduced as a sub, he scored two goals almost immediately.  With Mbappe starting and Cavani back on the bench for this one, I’m expecting PSG to roll in this match.  And Angers have lost both of their games so far this season.  Think they are in for a tough day here and I like PSG to get a 5-0 win

Bordeaux-Monaco

It’s been a tough week for Bordeaux with manager Gus Poyet fired last weekend and Thierry Henry set to take over at the club.  Bordeaux also had a Europa League fixture to contend with this week amid all the other drama going on and they came away from their trip to Belgium with a 0-0 draw against Gent.  I normally look to fade the teams who have played European games midweek and with everything else going on at Bordeaux, I think Monaco is a good bet for this week.  I like Monaco to get a 3-1 win here

And the rest of the Ligue 1 action for this week:

Lyon-Strasbourg: Lean Over 3 @1.85

Both games between these teams went over 3 last season and I think we will see some goals on Friday as well.  Lyon will want to bounce back after their surprising loss last week to Reims, while Strasbourg has scored in both of their games so far.  I think Lyon wins here 3-1

Amiens-Reims: Lean Reims PK @2.00

Reims have surprisingly taken a full six points from their two games so far, with 1-0 victories over Lyon and Nice.  Amiens, on the other hand, have two losses to start the season and I think it may be a third here.  Reims have already beaten two clubs bigger than Amiens and I think they get a third 1-0 win in this game

Montpellier-St Etienne: Lean Draw @3.17

Montpellier led Ligue 1 in draws last season with almost half of their league games ending level.   St Etienne also had quite a few draws last season and already have one this season as well.  The two meetings between these clubs were very close last season and this game should be as well.  I think this game ends 1-1

Nantes-Caen: Lean Caen +.5 @1.94

A tough start to the season for Nantes, as they have lost both of their Ligue 1 matches.  Caen had a tough start to the season with an away game against PSG, but bounced back to pick up a point last weekend versus Nice.  They played well against Nice and I think they can at least get a point against a winless Nantes side.  I think this match ends 1-1

Nice-Dijon: Lean Dijon +.5 @2.03

Nice have not looked very impressive so far with just 1 point from their two matches this season.  On the other hand, Dijon have had two nice victories to start the season and they are one of only four clubs with six points so far.  I think Dijon can continue to their strong form and while it is tough to win away to Nice, I think they at least get a point from this match.  I think this game ends 1-1

Toulouse-Nimes: Lean Over 2.5 @1.87

Nimes have played some wild games in their return to Ligue 1.  They have scored at least three times in both games so far and surprisingly have a full six points from two matches.  Toulouse have also played two games over 2.5 goals, with a 2-1 win over Bordeaux and a 4-0 loss to Monaco.  I think this match ends 2-2

Lille-Guingamp: Lean Over 2.5 @2.04

Both of these teams ended last season with their last five games all going over 2.5 goals.  Guingamp’s two matches this season have also gone over 2.5 and Lille played a 3-1 match with Rennes in their opener.   When Lille hosted Guingamp last season, the match ended 2-2 and I expect another game with goals here.  I like Lille to win 2-1

Marseille-Rennes: Lean Over 2.75 @1.87

Five of the last six matches played between these teams have had at least three goals and Marseille has had two high scoring games to start this season.  I think Marseille wins here 3-1

Ligue 1 Betting Preview August 17-19

Week two of action in Ligue 1 gets underway on Friday and there are three games that I like in this round:

1 unit bet on Monaco-Lille Over 2.75 @1.83

1 unit bet on Dijon-Nantes to Draw @3.54

1 unit bet on Caen-Nice to Draw @3.25

Monaco-Lille:

Lille came out with a very impressive performance last weekend, getting a 3-1 victory over a strong Rennes team, while Monaco also got a 3-1 win over Nantes.   Lille ended last season with a bunch of high scoring matches and Monaco were one of the highest scoring teams in the league, so this match should see some goals.  I think this game ends 2-2

Dijon-Nantes

Nantes had a disappointing loss to Monaco last weekend, but they held out for much of the match and only conceded late in the game.  Nantes played very low scoring matches in their away games last season and almost all of them were very close.  They drew with Dijon once last season with the other meeting ending 1-0.  This should be a close one as well and I think this game will end 1-1

Caen-Nice

Like Nantes, Nice played very close games in their away matches last season, with only a handful of their games decided by more than a goal.  This is a team that is still adjusting to a new manager and this team does not have much firepower up front.  But Caen do not appear to be the strongest side either, so I think this game should be very close and I think this will be a 1-1 draw

And the rest of the action in Ligue 1:

Reims-Lyon: Lean Reims +1 @1.76

Reims did very well in their opening match, going to Nice and coming away with a victory.  Now the home opener should be a big affair for their fans, especially facing one of the best teams in France and the crowd should be rocking and the players very motivated.  Lyon are a very good side, but I think Reims can get a result here and I like this to end 1-1

Guingamp-Paris SG: Lean Over 3.5 @2.19

Guingamp can score a lot of goals, especially when they play at home.  Last season, they scored at least twice in their final six home games.  PSG have been rolling to start the season, scoring four against Monaco in the Super Cup and three against Caen in the Ligue 1 opener, and this team isn’t even at full strength yet.  Head to head, the past two meetings have gone over 3.5 and I think this match ends 3-1 to PSG

Amiens-Montpellier: Lean Draw @3.19

Both matches these two played last season ended in 1-1 draws and Montpellier led the league with 18 games that ended all level.  Both had disappointing results in the opening week and this should be a close match with both wanting to pick up some points.  I think this will be a 1-1 result as well

Rennes-Angers: Lean Rennes ML @1.97

Rennes started the season on a bad note with a 3-1 loss away to Lille, but I think this is still one of the better teams in France and I expect them to bounce back here in the home opener.  Angers lost their opener as well and more concerning is that they allowed four goals against newly promoted Nimes.  I think Rennes will get a 2-1 win in this match

Strasbourg-St Etienne: Lean Draw @3.21

Strasbourg drew three of their last six home games last season and St Etienne played very close matches in just about all of their away games last term.  Both times these two met last season, the games were very close with one a 2-2 draw and the other a 1-0 win for St Etienne.  This should be another close one and I think this match ends 1-1

Toulouse-Bordeaux: Lean Over 2 @1.81

Very disappointing results for both of these teams with Toulouse losing 4-0 to Marseille while Bordeaux were defeated 2-0 by Strasbourg.  A very low total here for two teams that gave up a bunch of goals last weekend and I think this match will go over two goals.  Bordeaux are also competing in the Europa League at the moment and just played on Thursday, so I give the edge to Toulouse in this game and I think they win 2-1

Nimes-Marseille: Lean Over 2.75 @1.81

Both of these sides scored four in the opening fixture, Nimes won 4-3 against Angers and Marseille beat Toulouse 4-0.  With this the home opener for newly promoted Nimes, I expect them to put in a good performance, but the three goals they allowed last week is concerning when facing a dangerous team like Marseille and I expect the visitors to score at least a couple in this match.  I think Marseille win here 3-1

Ligue 1 Preview August 10-12

Ligue 1 gets underway on Friday and it will be interesting to see if anyone can slow down PSG this season.  I like the Paris club in their match on Sunday with Caen, while I also am backing Rennes against Lille.  My bets for round one of Ligue 1 are:

1 unit bet on Rennes +.25 @1.76

1 unit bet on PSG -2.5 @1.79

Lille-Rennes

Rennes had a strong season last term, finishing in fifth place and qualifying for the Europa League.  Rennes won both meetings last season and Lille hasn’t won a match head to head since 2015.  Lille really struggled last season and were nearly relegated from Ligue 1.  They should improve this season, but this is a tough start against a solid team in Rennes.  I think the visitors will get a 2-1 win in this match

Paris St Germain-Caen

An impressive 4-0 victory in the Super Cup last weekend for PSG and that was without Neymar, Mbappe, or Cavani in the lineup.  It is scary to think what this team will be able to do when at full strength and while they will still be missing several players for this match, they should still have more than enough to beat a team that was just a point away from relegation last season.  I like PSG to win here 5-1

And the rest of the Ligue 1 matches in the opening round:

Marseille-Toulouse: Lean Over 2.75 @1.95

Marseille scored a lot of goals last season and four of the last five games went over 2.5.  Toulouse also had four of five go over 2.5 to end last season and they have had some very high scoring matches in preseason friendlies.  This match should have some goals and I think this match will end 2-2

Nantes-Monaco: Under 2.5 @1.75

Nantes have typically played very low scoring matches when hosting Monaco, with the last six all going under 2.5 goals.  Nantes also had the most home matches go under 2.5 goals in Ligue 1 last season and their games as hosts averaged just 1.7 goals per game.  I think this match will end 1-1

Angers-Nimes: Lean Nimes +.25 @1.90

Nimes had a great campaign last season, getting an automatic promotion spot from Ligue 2 and leading the league in goals scored.  They have a good chance to get a result in their first Ligue 1 match here against an Angers team that really struggled in preseason.  Angers only scored three times in seven friendly matches and I think they may lose the opener here.  I like Nimes to win this match 1-0

Montpellier-Dijon: Lean Montpellier ML @1.74

Montpellier played great defense last season and only PSG allowed fewer goals.  Dijon, on the other hand, gave up tons of goals and only relegated Metz conceded more last term.  With this game at home, I think Montpellier should get the win and I like them to get a 2-1 victory here

Nice-Reims: Lean Under 2.5 @1.82

The last seven meetings between these two teams have all gone under 2.5 goals and Nice will be without Mario Balotelli for this one.  With this at home, Nice should be able to get the win, but it will probably be hard to score.  I think Nice win 1-0

Saint Etienne-Guingamp: Lean Under 2.5 @1.83

Four of the last five meetings between these teams have gone under 2.5 and Guingamp have really struggled in away games to St Etienne, scoring just once in the last five head to head.  St Etienne is missing several players for this match, so this should be close, but I think they get a 1-0 victory

Lyon-Amiens: Lean Lyon -1.75 @1.91

Lyon won their last five home matches last season and scored at least twice in each of those games.  Lyon beat Amiens 3-0 at home last season and I think there will be a similar result on Sunday.  I am going to predict another 3-0 Lyon win in this match

Bordeaux-Strasbourg: Lean Strasbourg +.5 @2.14

Bordeaux just played in the Europa League and had a long trip to the Ukraine and they will be on short rest for this match.  Plus, it has been a strange offseason for this team with disputes going on with the manager and the club.   With Bordeaux kind of in flux at the moment, I think Strasbourg can come in and get a win.  I like Strasbourg to win here 2-1
